MINNEAPOLIS – Despite a career-high 20 points from
Trent Gomez (FY, Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors HS), the Augsburg University men's basketball team fell to St. Olaf College 88-77 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Auggies led for a majority of the game's opening minutes, holding a 27-23 advantage with 7:52 remaining in the first half. The Oles dominated the following minutes, outscoring Augsburg 25-9 to close the half and take a 48-36 lead to halftime. Augsburg outscored St. Olaf 41-40 but never managed to cut the deficit below 10 in the second half as the Oles held on to earn the 88-77 win.
• Both teams shot above 50% from the field with Augsburg knocking down 30 of its 56 attempts (52.6%) and St. Olaf hitting on 32-of-55 (58.2%). The Auggies narrowly outrebounded the Oles 29-28, also outscoring them 15-14 on second chance opportunities.
• Gomez finished with his best collegiate game thus far, scoring 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting and adding five rebounds and two steals.
Isaac Rabaey (JR, Hastings, Minn./Hastings HS) went 6-for-6 from the field, scoring 14 points and pulling down a team-leading six rebounds.
Colin Meade (SR, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS) was also in double figures with 12 points and four rebounds.
• Coming off the bench for the Auggies,
Elias Batala (FY, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) finished with 15 points on an efficient 5-of-7 shooting performance.
FOR THE FOES
• Connor Martin led all players in the game with 21 points.
• Addison Metcalf and Ryan Warren added 15 and 12 points off the bench for the Oles, respectively.
UP NEXT
• The Auggies will travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico for nonconference games against Lancaster Bible on 12/19 and Albright College on 12/20 as part of the Puerto Rico Clasico.
