Auggie women finish series sweep with 3-2 win

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Jenna Gerold (SR, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS) scored a shorthanded goal in the second period, and Payton Allen (SR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) scored a power-play goal in the third period, as the Augsburg University women's hockey team claimed a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series sweep over Hamline University with a 3-2 win on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• In a game that featured 18 penalties, the Auggies claimed the win with two special-teams goals. Gerold gave the Auggies a 2-1 lead with a shorthanded goal at the 7:07 mark of the second period, and after Hamline tied the game early in the third period, the Auggies went ahead again on a 4-on-3 power play, as Allen scored her third goal of the season with 5:42 left in regulation.
• Emily Schoeberl (FY, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) opened the scoring with her sixth goal of the season, scoring at the 12:32 mark of the first period.
• Augsburg outshot Hamline by a 40-32 margin, its fifth straight game with 40-plus shots on-goal and 10th game with the feat this season.
• Chloe Stockinger (JR, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) improved to 10-6-2 on the year in goal with a 30-save effort.
• Gerold had six shots on-goal for the Auggies, while Elizabeth Fagerlind (SO, Kasson, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville HS) had five shots.

FOR THE FOES
• Annika Lindgren and Sydney Lemke scored goals for Hamline.
• Hamline goalie Maddie Nickell had 37 saves.
