Auggie lacrosse opens year with loss to Carroll

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg University women's lacrosse team opened its 2023 season with a 21-3 loss to Carroll University in a nonconference game on Sunday at Edor Nelson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Carroll scored the first nine goals of the game in the opening 11:56 of the game and took a 15-2 advantage into the halftime break. The Pioneers outshot the Auggies by a 35-11 margin and forced 22 Auggie turnovers, while committing just 11.
• Jade Wilson (FY, Waukee, Iowa/Northwest HS) scored her first collegiate goal on a free-position shot late in the first quarter.
• Rylan Lee (SO, Parker, Colo./Ponderosa HS) scored from Shelby Ramirez (SR, Winthrop, Minn./Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop HS) in the third quarter, and Eleanor Flynn (FY, Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge HS) scored her first collegiate goal in the final minute of the game.
• Wilson collected six draw controls and a caused turnover for the Auggies, while Lee had four draw controls, a ground ball and a caused turnover.
• Mackenzie Galazen (SO, Kimball, Minn./Rocori HS) had three draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
• Alexa Martin (JR, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) had two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
• Making her collegiate debut in goal, Nicole Schuster (FY, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) had nine saves, three ground balls and a caused turnover.

FOR THE FOES
• Trina Hardin scored five goals and had five assists, two ground balls and three caused turnovers to lead Carroll. Lexi Kaltenberg had five goals and two ground balls.
• Carla Jelacic scored two goals with an assist, adding nine draw controls, three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
