JAN PHYL VILLAGE, Fla. – With a split of a pair of games at The Spring Games on Monday, the Augsburg University softball team is now off to its best start after its first 10 games since the 1991 season, now standing at 8-2 overall.

Brynn Hostettler (SO, Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS) improved to 2-0 on the season in the pitcher's circle, striking out 12 against just four walks and five hits.Â
• Augsburg built a 5-0 lead after the first two innings, and withheld a four-run outburst by Beloit in the sixth inning to claim the victory.

Zoie Johnson (SO, Carlton, Minn./Esko HS) hit a two-run double in the bottom of the first inning, driving home
Torrie Rehder (SO, Goodhue, Minn./Goodhue HS) and
Olivia Hennager (FY, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS). Hostettler followed Johnson's double with a double of her own, plating Johnson.
• A sacrifice fly by
Jayden Evenson (FY, Mosinee, Wis./Mosinee HS) and an RBI single by Hennager drove in a pair of runs in the second.

Libby Moore (SO, Springville, Iowa/Springville HS) relieved Hostettler in the sixth inning to claim the save, recording a strikeout on the final out of the game with the bases loaded.
LAKELAND 5, AUGSBURG 0
• Augsburg managed just one hit off of Lakeland pitcher Skylar Hall, a leadoff single by Johnson in the top of the second inning. Augsburg had just four baserunners in the game.

Olivia O'Connor (JR, White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) struck out two against three walks and eight hits for the Auggies in a complete-game effort.
• Just one of the five runs charged to O'Connor were earned, as the Auggies committed five errors in the game.
BEYOND THEÂ BOXSCORE
• Augsburg's 8-2 start to the season is its best start after the first 10 games since a 9-1 start in the 1991 season, when the Auggies finished 23-10. Augsburg started the season 7-3 in both the 2018 and 2017 campaigns.
FOR THE FOES
• Maddie Moser and Kaylee Witte had two hits each for Beloit, with Witte driving in two runs and both hitters scoring a run.
• Madi Johnson went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Juliana Hall hit an RBI double.
