TUCSON, Ariz. – The Augsburg University baseball team took on Carthage College (Wis.) in a single seven-inning game on its penultimate day in Arizona on Thursday, falling to the Firebirds 13-2 at Kino Sports Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Carthage opened the scoring with a run in the first and added to their lead with a two-run home run in the second. The Firebirds added four more in the third to take a 7-0 lead.
• The Auggies got their first run of the afternoon in the top of the fourth when
Connor Stoik (SR, Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial HS) scored
Michael Weiss (SR, Marion, Iowa/Linn-Marr HS) with a single to make it 7-1 in favor of the Firebirds.
• After Carthage added five more runs in the fourth, Augsburg got its second and final run of the game in the fifth inning with
Lance Nayman (JR, St. Paul, Minn./Central HS) singling to score
Jack Jones (JR, Burnsville, Minn./Holy Angels HS). The Firebirds added one final run in the bottom of the fifth to take a 13-2 lead that would hold for the remainder of the game.

Dylan Adams (SO, Windermere, Fla./Windermere Preparatory School) got the start on the mound, taking the loss with five hits and two earned runs allowed along with two strikeouts in 2.0 innings.
Luke Johnson (SR, Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS) and
Kell Piggott (FY, Superior, Wis./Superior HS) each pitched 2.0 innings of relief, recording three and two strikeouts, respectively.

Carter Peterson (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) was the only Auggie with multiple hits on the day, going 2-3 at the plate. Jones and
Steven Salz (SR, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) each had doubles for Augsburg while Weiss had his first triple of the season.
FOR THE FOES
• Bryce Schaum pitched a complete game for Carthage, striking out five while allowing seven hits and just two runs in seven innings on the mound.
• Cody Tostrud and Mike Ciesla each went 3-4 at the plate for the Firebirds with two and one runs batted in, respectively.

• The Auggies will wrap up their trip to Tucson on Friday (3/17) with a single game against Luther College (Iowa) scheduled for 1 pm (CT).
