Auggies drop road opener to Titans

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Augsburg University women's lacrosse team played its first road contest of the 2023 season on Saturday afternoon, falling to Illinois Wesleyan 22-8.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Auggies kept it close through most of the opening frame, trailing 4-3 before three Titan goals in the final minute of the quarter gave them a 7-3 advantage. The Titans continued to push their advantage in the second quarter, outscoring Augsburg 6-1 to take a 13-4 lead at halftime.
• Illinois Wesleyan would extend its advantage to double-digits in the third, leading 17-7 at the final quarter break. The fourth was more of the same with the Titans outscoring the Auggies 5-1 to cement the victory.
Alexa Hoffman (JR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) logged her second-straight three-goal game, scoring on all three of her shots.
• Jade Wilson (FY, Waukee, Iowa/Northwest HS) contributed a well-rounded performance, scoring two goals with six draw controls, two ground balls, and three caused turnovers.
Isabella Kohout (FY, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS), Shelby Ramirez (SR, Winthrop, Minn./Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop HS), and Mackenzie Galazen (SO, Kimball, Minn./Rocori HS) scored one goal each for Augsburg with Galazen adding four draw controls, a ground ball, and an assist and Ramirez contributing a draw control and a ground ball.
• Goalie Nicole Schuster (FY, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) had eight saves, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers.  

FOR THE FOES
• Mia Fiandaca led all scorers with six goals while Devon Hanson finished with five goals.
• Lizzie Rymarcsuk made five saves in goal for the Titans.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg will wrap up its weekend trip to Illinois on Sunday (3/5), taking on Augustana College (Ill.) in Rock Island, Ill. at 12 p.m.
