Wilson sets school record in Auggie victory

MINNEAPOLIS -- Jade Wilson (FY, Waukee, Iowa/Northwest HS) set an Augsburg University women's lacrosse single-game school record by scoring nine goals, powering the Auggies in a 16-9 victory over Wartburg College in a Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference game on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Wilson broke the Augsburg single-game school record with her nine-goal effort, scoring on 11 shots on-goal. She added seven ground balls, seven draw controls and four caused turnovers. Her nine goals broke the old school record of seven, set seven times in the 10-season history of the Augsburg women's lacrosse program, including once earlier this season by Wilson. Her nine points also tied a single-game school record, set in 2019 in games by Mikayla Jones and Mikayla Knudson.
• Augsburg scored five straight goals -- three by Wilson -- in the final 8:58 of the second quarter to overcome a 4-3 deficit and take the lead for good. Augsburg then scored four straight goals in a 3:51 span to pull away in the third quarter.
• The Auggies outshot the Knights by a 31-22 margin in the game, and claimed 35 ground balls to Wartburg's 27. The Auggies also had 19 draw controls to the Knights' nine. 
Eleanor Flynn (FY, Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge HS) scored two goals with three ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Rylan Lee (SR, Parker, Colo./Ponderosa HS) scored a goal with two assists, adding five ground balls, five draw controls and four caused turnovers.
Mackenzie Galazen (SO, Kimball, Minn./Rocori HS) scored a goal with six draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers, and Alexa Hoffman (JR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) scored a goal with three ground balls.
Alexa Martin (JR, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) scored a goal with three ground balls and two caused turnovers, and Isabella Kohout (FY, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) scored a goal. 
• Beatriz Sandoval Gomez (SO, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) had an assist, to go along with five caused turnovers and four ground balls.
Nicole Schuster (FY, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) had eight saves in goal, along with two ground balls.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Wilson now has 43 goals and 44 points on the season, leading the MWLC in both categories. She also leads the MWLC with 75 draw controls and 54 ground balls, while standing third with 25 caused turnovers.
• Wilson's 43 goals are now third-most in a single season in Augsburg history, behind the 53 goals scored by Helena Nguyen and 50 by Izzy Snow, both in the 2018 season. Her 54 ground balls are now seventh-most in a year in Auggie history, while her 74 draw controls are fourth-most.

FOR THE FOES
• Beka Gershenoff scored four goals with two assists for a six-point performance to lead Wartburg. Britta Solheim scored three goals with seven ground balls, eight draw controls and five caused turnovers.
• Alyson Hasner had nine saves and six ground balls in goal for the Knights in 54 minutes of work. Kate Ferguson had one save in relief.
