NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Augsburg University baseball team returned to action Tuesday after inclement weather forced an idle weekend, splitting with Carleton College in a pair of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference games in Northfield.

GAME ONE RECAP
• The Auggies got on the board in the top of the first inning when
Steven Salz (SR, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) batted in
Michael Weiss (SR, Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar HS) with a sacrifice fly to center field.
Ty Gage (JR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) extended the Auggie advantage to two with an RBI single that scored
Connor Stoik (SR, Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial HS) later in the same inning.
• After a scoreless frame in the second, Weiss smashed a triple to deep right center in the top of the third, plating
Clint Mattson (SR, North Branch, Minn./North Branch HS) in the process. Just one batter later, Stoik brought Weiss in to score, making it a 4-0 game.
• The Knights pulled within one with a run in the third and two more in the fifth, but
Carson Tomony (SR, Madison, Wis./Madison East HS) restored a two-run cushion with a fielder's choice that scored Salz in the top of the sixth.
• After reaching first on a single, advancing to second on a wild pitch, and gaining third on a Carleton fielding error,
Lance Nayman (Jr, St. Paul, Minn./Central HS) stole home in the with two outs in the top of the seventh to give the Auggies a 6-3 lead that would hold through the game's final out.

Myer Schmitz (SO, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) was outstanding on the mound for the Auggies, pitching a complete game while giving up just six hits, two walks, and one earned run with three strikeouts.
• Mattson went 2-for-4 at the plate, finishing as the only Auggie with multiple hits.
GAME TWO RECAP
• The Auggies carried their momentum early in game two, taking a 4-0 lead in the top of the first with Gage batting in a run while Weiss, Mattson, Stoik each came around to score on Carleton errors.
• The Knights flipped the script from that point, scoring two in the second, three in the third, and three more in the fourth to open up a four-run advantage at 8-4.
• Stoik pulled the Auggies within three in the fifth, belting a triple to center field to score Mattson.
• Augsburg managed one baserunner in the sixth and two in the eighth with two of the three reaching as far as third base, but the Knights pitched out of it each time as they held the Auggies scoreless for three innings.
• With two outs and two on base in the top of the ninth, the Auggies put together the beginnings of a rally when Mattson came around to score on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to two.
Adam Marshall (SO, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) took a walk in the following at bat to load the bases up for Tomony, but the Knights recorded the final out to earn the doubleheader split.

Austin Lang (FY, Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS) made the start on the hill and ultimately took the loss for Augsburg, giving up four hits and three earned runs with two strikeouts in 3.0 innings.
Nick Allbee (FY, Savage, Minn./Prior Lake HS) pitched the following two innings, allowing three hits and one earned run.
Jacob Henry (FY, Stacy, Minn./Forest Lake HS) closed the final three innings of the game, giving up just one hit with two strikeouts while holding the Knights scoreless.
• Mattson, Weiss, Stoik, and
Brandon Lockhart (SO, Oakdale, Minn./Tartan HS) each had one hit in the game for Augsburg.
FOR THE FOES
• Asher Stolberg went 3-for-4 at the plate as the Knights' designated hitter in game one while third baseman Ryan Change was 3-for-4 in game two.

• The Auggies are scheduled to travel to St. Olaf College on Wednesday (4/19) to take on the Oles in a doubleheader starting at 2:30 pm.
