Clutch hits deliver sweep for Auggie softball

MINNEAPOLIS – A pair of clutch two-out, sixth-inning hits, by Olivia Dynneson (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) and Torrie Rehder (SO, Goodhue, Minn./Goodhue HS), delivered a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference sweep for the Augsburg University softball team, as the Auggies swept Carleton College 1-0 and 6-5 on Sunday afternoon.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• The Auggies broke a scoreless game in the sixth inning to gain the victory. Zoie Johnson (SO, Carlton, Minn./Esko HS) led off the inning with a single, moved to second on a groundout, and with two outs, Dynneson smacked a clutch base hit to right field, sending home Johnson.
• Olivia O'Connor (JR, White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) pitched one of her best games of the season, improving to 8-5 with her 10th complete game. She struck out a season-high nine Knights against five walks and four hits, stranding nine Knights on the bases. Of her 126 pitches in the game, 72 were strikes.
• Dynneson had two of Augsburg's five hits in the game, with Rehder, Johnson and Katie Manecke (JR, Shoreview, Minn./Shoreview HS) each hitting singles.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• Another two-out hit in the bottom of the sixth inning delivered a victory for the Auggies, extending their winning streak to four straight games. With one out, Kayla Hanson (SR, St. James, Minn./St. James HS) hit a single up the middle, and she advanced to second on a groundout. Rehder then connected on her team-leading ninth double of the season, a shot into the left field corner to bring home the go-ahead run.
• Brynn Hostettler (SO, Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS) threw her fifth complete game of the year to improve to 8-3 on the season, striking out six against eight walks and three hits. She threw 127 pitches in the game, with 66 strikes.
• Augsburg struck first in the second game, as Johnson hit an RBI single to plate Jayden Evenson (FY, Mosinee, Wis./Mosinee HS).
• With two runners on base in the second inning, Hanson reached base on a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt attempt, bringing home Jaime Olson (FY, Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS). Manecke then followed with an RBI single to drive in Hostettler.
• In the third inning, Johnson scored on an RBI single by Olson, and after a double play, Hanson again reached base on a throwing error, with Olson scoring.

 FOR THE FOES
• Bryanna Schaffer went 2-for-4 with a triple in the first game for Carleton.
• Helen Moses hit a two-run double in the fourth inning of the second game for the Knights.
