Softball streak ends with losses at St. Olaf

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Augsburg University softball team saw its four-game winning streak snapped with a pair of losses at St. Olaf College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Thursday afternoon, falling 11-2 and 4-1.

THE BASICS

RECORD: Augsburg 19-13 overall (5-9 MIAC), St. Olaf 17-17 overall (11-5 MIAC)

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• The Oles scored five runs in the bottom of the third inning and six runs in the bottom of the fourth to claim the early victory via the NCAA eight-run rule. St. Olaf had 14 hits to Augsburg's six in the first game.
• Katie Manecke (JR, Shoreview, Minn./Shoreview HS) drove home Torrie Rehder (SO, Goodhue, Minn./Goodhue HS) on an RBI single in the third inning, and Zoie Johnson (SO, Carlton, Minn./Esko HS) doubled and scored on a single by Libby Moore (SO, Springville, Iowa/Springville HS) in the fourth inning for the Auggies' runs.
• Johnson had two of Augsburg's six hits in the first game.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• St. Olaf broke a 1-1 tie with a three-run sixth inning. The Oles had just two hits in the second game, but scored their three runs in the sixth inning on just one hit, taking advantage of four walks and two wild pitches.
• Augsburg scored its lone run in the top of the sixth inning. Jayden Evenson (FY, Mosinee, Wis./Mosinee HS) led off the inning with a single, moved to third on a single and walk, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Johnson.
• Evenson had two of Augsburg's four hits in the second game.

FOR THE FOES
• Amelia Christenson went 3-for-3 with a two-run double and three-run home run in the first game for St. Olaf, while Anne Fossum also went 3-for-3 with an RBI double and solo home run.
• Medora Rylee went 2-for-2 with two RBI in the second game for the Oles.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg hosts Saint Mary's in a MIAC doubleheader on Friday (4/28) at 2 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field.
