2022-23 CSC ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA MEN'S AT-LARGE TEAMS
CSC ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA PROGRAM

MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg University women's hockey forward
Payton Allen (SR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Team as a first-team selection in the NCAA Division III Women's At-Large category, it was announced on Thursday. Allen is an exercise science major at Augsburg with a 4.00 grade-point average.
Â
Across all sports, Augsburg student-athletes have now been honored 53 times with College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-America honors since 1981, including 43 honors since 2000 and at least one every year since 2011. Allen is the second Auggie women's hockey player to ever receive CSC Academic All-America honors, joining Erika Allen, who was a second-team selection in 2016.
Allen earned CSC Academic All-District honors in May.
Â
In the women's at-large category, a total of 45 NCAA Division III student-athletes were selected (16 first-team, 18 second-team, 11 third-team). Twenty-two of the 45 student-athletes selected, including Allen, had perfect 4.00 GPAs.
Â
A women's hockey defender, Allen earned
All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors for the second straight year in 2022-23, and was named as the
MIAC's Elite 22 honoree in women's hockey, given to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average among competing teams in MIAC playoffs. Allen was named as the
2022-23 Augsburg Honor Athlete at the 2023 Auggie Awards in April.
Â
Allen was one of the team's leaders on defense in 2022-23, scoring three goals with 10 assists for 13 points. She scored two power-play goals and two game-winning goals, recording a plus-19 plus-minus rating. She also had 15 blocked shots, and had a goal or assist in 10 of her 27 games played this season.
Â
In her 90-game collegiate career, Allen finished with six goals and 26 assists for 32 points, with three power-play goals, two game-winning goals and a plus-31 plus-minus rating. She was a team captain this season. Allen was a part of Auggie teams that reached the MIAC postseason playoffs three times, including two championship game appearances. The Auggies went 54-30-6 (.633) overall and 37-12-3 (.740) in MIAC play during Allen's career. Allen is also a two-time Academic All-MIAC honoree and two-time American Hockey Coaches Association All-American Scholar honoree.
Â
In the CSC Academic All-America program, top student-athletes are originally nominated for inclusion on Academic All-District teams by college and university sports information directors. Student-athletes must have a grade-point average above 3.50 (4.0 scale) and have outstanding athletic credentials. The Women's At-Large category includes student-athletes from 12 NCAA sports -- beach volleyball, bowling, crew/rowing, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing and water polo. Sports information directors in each division vote to select Academic All-America honorees and the Academic All-America of the Year in each category.
Â
The Division III Academic All-America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure, to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the Division III Academic All-America teams program.
