MINNEAPOLIS -- Claiming its third straight shutout, the Augsburg University remained unbeaten, improving to 6-0-1 with a 1-0 nonconference victory over the University of Wisconsin-Stout on Tuesday evening at Edor Nelson Field.
THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg 1, Wisconsin-Stout 0
LOCATION:Â Edor Nelson Field, Minneapolis
RECORDS:Â Augsburg 6-0-1 overall, UW-Stout 2-2-1 overall
HOW IT HAPPENED
•
Jayla Ponce (SR, Kuna, Idaho/Kuna HS) scored the lone goal of the game in the 18th minute. Following a steal at midfield,
Megan Hensel (SR, Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) played the ball to the right wing, whereÂ
Phoebe Alva Rosa (SO, Jackson, Wyo./Jackson Hole HS) gained possession in the attacking third. She fed the ball across the 18-yard box, and Ponce pounced on the ball and tapped it into the net for her fourth goal of the season.
• Augsburg held a 56-to-44-percent advantage in possession time, and held firm in its defensive third of the field. Augsburg outshot UW-Stout by a 16-6 margin, but limited the Blue Devils to just one shot in the second half, keeping the visitors from mounting attacks on-goal.
• Ponce had four shots in the game, while
McKenna Nachreiner (FY, Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee HS),
Hannah Hatfield (SO, Rogers, Ark./Rogers HS) and
Allison Hookom (SO, Andover, Minn./Anoka HS) had two shots each.
•Â
Iz Shuster (SR, Waconia, Minn./Waconia HS) claimed her eighth career shutout, and third in a row, with four saves in goal for Augsburg. Shuster has yet to allow a goal in 495 minutes of play this season, and is now 5-0-1 on the year. Entering Tuesday's game, she was one of just nine goalkeepers in NCAA Division III women's soccer nationally (who have played at least 50 percent of their team's minutes in goal) to not allow a goal this season.
FOR THE FOES
• Kristen Silenzi had four saves in goal for UW-Stout.
• Lauren Chukel had two shots for the Blue Devils.
