Auggies improve to 2-0-0 with strong performance

MINNEAPOLIS -- Controlling the pace of play throughout the game with a strong all-around effort, the Augsburg University women's soccer team claimed their second win to start the season, a 3-1 nonconference triumph over the University of Minnesota Morris on Sunday evening at Edor Nelson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• For the second straight game, Augsburg dominated all of the significant statistics, outshooting Minnesota Morris by a 34-3 margin -- 14-0 in the first half, 20-3 in the second half. The Auggies controlled possession by a 58-to-42-percent margin, and had six corner kicks to the Cougars' zero.
• The Auggies applied consistent pressure, rarely allowing the Cougars into their attacking third of the field. In fact, just six percent of the Cougars' possession time was spent in its attacking third, compared to 41 percent of Augsburg's possession time spent in its attacking third.
• Phoebe Alva Rosa (SO, Jackson, Wyo./Jackson Hole HS) put the Auggies on the scoreboard with her second goal in as many games, connecting on a rising shot from 20 yards out on the right side just 5:19 into the game.
• Playing in her second collegiate game, McKenna Nachreiner (FY, Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee HS) scored her fourth goal of the season in the 23rd minute, collecting a pass through the defense from Jayla Ponce (SR, Kuna, Idaho/Kuna HS) and sliding a shot to the far post.
• Three minutes into the second half, Clara Fesemyer (JR, Madison, Wis./Madison East HS) was taken down in the penalty box on a breakaway, and converted the penalty kick for her second career goal, giving the Auggies a 3-0 lead.
• Nineteen different Auggies saw game action in hot game conditions. The game was delayed by an hour due to extreme heat, with a kickoff temperature of 94 degrees at 7 p.m.
• Ponce and Megan Hensel (SR, Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) had eight shots each as part of Augsburg's 34-shot attack.
• For the second straight game, Iz Shuster (SR, Waconia, Minn./Waconia HS) and Tess Enlow (SO, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) split time in goal, with Enlow recording a save in the second half.

FOR THE FOES
• Bella Toth scored for Minnesota Morris in the 71st minute, bending a rising shot from the right edge of the 18-yard box to the top left corner of the net.
• Danielle Reinhard had 10 saves in goal for the Cougars.
