Auggie men draw with No. 17-ranked Gusties

MINNEAPOLIS -- Goalkeeper Oscar Herrera (SR, Madison, Wis./Madison East HS) came up with six saves, and Augsburg University's defense played a strong game, as the Auggies picked up their second straight scoreless draw, a 0-0 tie with No. 17-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game on Saturday at Edor Nelson Field.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg 0, Gustavus 0
LOCATION: Edor Nelson Field, Minneapolis
RECORDS: Augsburg 6-1-3 overall (2-0-2 MIAC), Gustavus 3-1-4 overall (1-1-2 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Herrera picked up his third shutout of the year and 15th of his collegiate career with his six-save effort, including several dramatic diving saves in the second half.
• Augsburg held a 60-to-40-percent possession advantage and outshot Gustavus by a 9-6 margin, though only three Auggie shots were on-frame. One shot, by Spencer Enright (SR, St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS), struck the crossbar in the 47th minute.
• Augsburg center defenders Drew Collins (SR, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) and Jakob Mohrlok (JR, Stuttgart, Germany/Schoenbuch Gymnasium) played the full 90 minutes in very warm conditions, but played solidly in protecting Herrera.
Mizael Harris (SO, Portland, Ore./La Salle Catholic College Prep HS) had three shots for Augsburg, while Mohrlok had two shots.

FOR THE FOES
• Wesley Sanders had three saves in goal for Gustavus.

QUOTES FROM AUGSBURG HEAD COACH GREG HOLKER
• "We had 60 percent of the ball, created more chances, managed the chaotic moments, etc. but in the end we feel a bit empty after that result."
• "If you can't capitalize on the moments you create, you suffer and drop points. On the other end of the field, we didn't feel threatened -- they had one moment where they had a chance from the corner of the 18, but it was under hit and Oscar held it well. Outside of that it was a solid defensive performance from our group."

UP NEXT
• Augsburg travels to face Luther College in a nonconference game on Monday (10/2) at 7 p.m. in Decorah, Iowa.
