DULUTH, Minn. –
Katie Manecke (SR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) hit a game-winning jumper as time expired, and the Augsburg University women's basketball team beat the College of St. Scholastica 57-55 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• After leading 10-9 at the end of the first, the Auggies expanded their lead to three with a 28-25 advantage at halftime. Augsburg led by as many as 10 points in the third quarter, but the Saints managed to cut the deficit to four at 46-42 entering the final frame.
• The Saints gained the lead at 51-50 with 3:24 to play in regulation, but the Auggies tied it back up at 55 each with just 52 seconds on the clock. Following a missed layup by St. Scholastica with 19 seconds to play, the Auggies took the ball down the court and held for the last shot. Manecke dribbled around a defender and pulled up for an elbow jumper, sinking it as time expired to give the Auggies the 57-55 win.
• The Auggies took better care of the basketball than the Saints, winning the turnover margin 22-14 and turning that into an 18-13 edge in points off turnovers. Augsburg also boasted the better bench performance, outscoring St. Scholastica 14-10 in the category.

Anja Smith (SR, Keawaskum, Wis./Saint Mary's Springs HS) neared a double-double with 15 points on 4-of-9 shooting to go along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Wakinyela Bear (SO, Morrison, Colo./Meskwaki HS) was second on the team with 11 points, six rebounds, and two steals.

Melanie Delestrez (SO, Lake Stevens, Wash./Lake Stevens HS) provided a spark off the bench, scoring nine points and pulling down five rebounds. Manecke and
Kalena Myers (SR, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) added seven and six points, respectively, with Myers also nabbing five steals.
FOR THE FOES
• Kloey Lind led all scored in the game with 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting, also adding nine rebounds.

• Augsburg will face Gustavus Adolphus College in the first game of a road doubleheader with the men's teams at 1 pm on Saturday (1/20) in St. Peter.
