Auggie men top Gusties 3-2

MINNEAPOLIS – Jake Hale (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./Apex Virtual School), Erik Palmqvist (SR, Linkoping, Sweden/Anderstorpsgymnasiet) and Landon Parker (FY, East Grand Forks, Minn./East Grand Forks HS) scored goals for Augsburg University, as the Auggies claimed a 3-2 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey victory over Gustavus Adolphus College on Friday evening.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg 3, Gustavus 2
LOCATION: Ed Saugestad Rink, Minneapolis
RECORDS: Augsburg 8-7-1 overall (5-2-0 MIAC), Gustavus 7-9-2 overall (2-6-1 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Auggies surrendered a goal 1:50 into the second period, but took the lead back with a pair of goals in a 52-second span midway through the game. Hale tied the game with his second goal of the season, taking a centering pass in the slot from Luke Mountain (JR, Woodbury, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS) and snapping a wrister to the net. Gunnar Williams (FY, Elgin, Ill./University of Nebraska HS), a mid-season addition to the Auggies playing in his fifth game, claimed his first collegiate assist with a pass up the ice to Mountain.
• Palmqvist scored his sixth goal of the season, driving up the right wing off passes from goalie Samuel Vyletelka (JR, Zilina, Slovakia/Grammar School of St. Francis of Assisi) and defender Logan Kons (SR, Niles, Ill./Niles West HS) and sliding the puck across the crease and into the net.
• Parker gained a loose puck in his own zone, sprinted up the ice and eluded the sliding Gustavus goalie, depositing the puck into the empty net for his third goal of the season.
• The Auggies were outshot by a 36-29 margin in the game, but Vyletelka claimed 34 saves, including 25 in the final two periods, to pick up the victory.
