ST. PETER, Minn. –
Kennedy Stein (SR, Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest HS) tied the game with a goal early in the second period for Augsburg University, but host Gustavus Adolphus College scored twice in a two-minute span in the third period to claim a 3-1 victory in the opener of a key Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey series on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Stein scored her seventh goal of the season at the 3:32 mark of the second period, scoring on a rebound off a shot from the point by
Nora Stepan (SO, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS). Stepan's shot was tapped in the slot by
Emily Cronkhite (JR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS), before Stein was able to tap the loose puck into the goal.
• The Gusties scored a power-play goal late in the first period, then broke the 1-1 tie with a pair of goals 2:07 apart midway through the third period for the victory, snapping Augsburg's seven-game winning streak.
• Gustavus outshot Augsburg by a 22-18 margin in the game. Stein had four shots on-goal, while
Sydney Rydel (SR, Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) and
Ella Olson (FY, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) had three shots each.
• Goalie
Chloe Stockinger (SR, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) had 19 saves for the Auggies.

• Brooke Power scored a power-play goal in the first period for Gustavus, the defending NCAA Division III national champions and current No. 2-ranked team in the latest USCHO.com Division III national rankings. Emily Olson and Kaitlyn Holland scored in the third period.
• Katie McCoy had 17 saves in goal for the Gusties.
