Austin Jentzen named Defensive Player of the Week

Austin JentzenMINNEAPOLIS – Augsburg University's Austin Jentzen (SR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) was named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday.

The first Auggie to earn Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors since Joe Palmer in 2022, Jentzen averaged 3.5 blocks and 4 rebounds per-game in a 1-1 week for the Auggies. In a dominant win over St. Scholastica on Wednesday, Jentzen recorded a steal, five rebounds, and five blocks, the most blocks in a MIAC game this season and most by an Auggie player in a game since 2012. Jentzen also added two blocks and three rebounds against Concordia-Moorhead on Saturday.

So far this season, Jentzen is averaging 5.9 points and 5.9 rebounds per-game, while adding 25 blocks and four steals.

Now 6-10 on the season, the Auggies will play a pair of road contests within conference play this week with a game at Bethel on Wednesday (1/24) at 7 pm and a game at St. Olaf on Saturday (1/27) at 3 pm.
