Kalena Myers named Defensive Player of the Week

Kalena MyersMINNEAPOLIS – Augsburg University's Kalena Myers (SR, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) was named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Monday.

The first Auggie women's basketball player to earn Player of the Week honors since Jaley Coplin in 2023, Myers helped the Auggies to a 1-1 record with 13 total steals, 10 total rebounds, and 21 total points. In a win over St. Olaf on Saturday, Myers finished with nine steals, seven rebounds, and 11 points, the most steals by a MIAC player this season and the third-most in Augsburg's program history. In a loss to Bethel on Wednesday, Myers had four steals, three rebounds, and 10 points.

Myers sits squarely atop the conference ranks for steals this season with 56 in 16 games, 20 more than the next closest student-athlete. For the season so far, Myers is averaging 9.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.5 steals, and 2.4 assists per-game.

Now 7-9 this season, the Auggies will head to St. Joseph, Minn. to take on the College of Saint Benedict on Wednesday (1/31) at 7 pm.
