Goal in final minute gives SJU tie with Augsburg

MINNEAPOLIS -- Mizael Harris (JR, Happy Valley, Ore./La Salle Catholic College Prep HS) and Tomas Menna (SR, Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) scored goals for Augsburg College, but a Saint John's University goal with 23 seconds left in the second half ended the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest in a 2-2 tie on Wednesday evening.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg 2, Saint John's 2
LOCATION: Edor Nelson Field, Minneapolis
RECORDS: Augsburg 8-2-2 overall (2-0-1 MIAC), Saint John's 3-4-1 overall (1-2-1 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg took the lead in the 27th minute, with Harris scoring his fourth goal of the season, assisted by Reumus Repcak (SO, Tualatin, Ore./Tualatin HS). Repcak collected the ball deep in the 18-yard box following a clearing pass deflected off a Johnnie defender, and passed the ball from the end line across the goal box to Harris, who hit the volley with his right foot into the net.
• The Johnnies tied the game with a goal in the 43rd minute, but Augsburg took the lead 10 minutes into the second half, as Menna scored his fifth goal of the campaign. Harris fed the ball from the center to Ceazar Daniell (JR, Portland, Ore./Cleveland HS) on the left wing, and Daniel sent the ball forward to Menna, streaking up the middle into the six-yard box. Menna jumped and flicked the bouncing ball with his trailing foot into the net.
• Augsburg maintained the lead until the closing seconds. Open in the middle of the 18-yard box, Carter Hermanson collected a feed from the right wing by McKaid Schotzko, and put a left-footed shot in the goal with 23.8 seconds left to play.
• Augsburg held a 56-to-44-percent possession advantage in the game, and outshot the Johnnies by a 19-16 margin.
Frankie Pinto (FY, Chicago, Ill./Maine South HS) had three saves in goal for the Auggies.

FOR THE FOES
• Alex Bowman scored from Brendan Hainey in the 43rd minute for the Johnnies.
• Saint John's goalkeeper Evan Siefken had four saves.

QUOTES FROM AUGSBURG HEAD COACH GREG HOLKER
• "The MIAC is one of the most difficult conferences in the country, top to bottom. Every game is a challenge and there is always so much riding on each point. It is never going to be easy. Thinking in that mindset would be a disservice to all the teams in the league -- they are all incredible."
• "We are clearly disappointed to have given away two points at the end of the match. However, we also have to lift up the goal that Hermanson scored. That catch and turn out of the air was special, and he's now scored twice on us at Edor Nelson Field in his career."
• "We just need to move forward and go again. All teams are going to suffer during the season; the ones that move forward quickly are the ones that get rewarded in the end. I love that about this group -- they hate that this just happened, but they will leave it behind and go again."
