Balanced attack lifts Auggies to win over Vikings

MANKATO, Minn. – With four players claiming nine or more kills, the Augsburg University volleyball team scored a 3-1 nonconference victory at Bethany Lutheran College on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Auggies were paced by outside hitter Bri Van Well (SR, Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS), who had 16 kills on .267 hitting, adding five digs. Taylor Hoehns (JR, Cedar Falls, Iowa/Dike-New Hartford HS) tied a career-high with her second double-digit kill effort in the last three matches, claiming 10 kills on a .438 attack percentage.
• Ava Carlson (FY, Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS) recorded her eighth match with seven or more kills, with a nine-kill, 11-dig effort, adding two service aces and a block assist. Madison Gully (SR, Oak Grove, Minn./St. Francis HS) claimed her 10th match with seven or more kills, with nine kills and a block assist.
• Augsburg won the first set 25-16 and dropped the second set 25-19, before coming back with wins of 25-20 and 25-23. The match featured 21 ties and six lead changes.
• Angel Vo (SR, Blaine, Minn./Mounds View HS) recorded her eighth assist-dig double-double of the season and third in a row, with 20 assists and 11 digs, to go along with three service aces. Jovial King (SO, Caledonia, Minn./Caledonia HS) had 20 assists and six digs. Torrie Rehder (SR, Goodhue, Minn./Goodhue HS) had 27 digs and five assists.

FOR THE FOES
• Bethany Lutheran was led by Lilly Mehrkens, who had 15 kills. Maddie Meyer had 11 kills and three block assists. Lexiss Trygg had nine kills and six blocks (one solo).
• Abby Distad had 41 assists, and Mddi Wendland had 14 digs for the Vikings.
