Auggies bounce back with win over Cougars

MINNEAPOLIS -- With three starters scoring in double figures, the Augsburg University men's basketball team bounced back from a pair of losses with an 84-77 nonconference victory over the University of Minnesota Morris on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The game was a close one early, until a 13-2 run over a three-minute span gave the Auggies a 10-point lead, 36-26 with 5:51 left in the first half. Augsburg led 42-36 at halftime, but the lead did not dip below four points the rest of the way.
Will Blascziek (SR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) led the Auggies with 15 points, adding five rebounds, two assists and two steals.
• Elias Batala (SO, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) scored 14 points with six rebounds and four assists, and Mario Adams (SO, Eagan, Minn./Eastview HS) scored 14 points with four rebounds.
Mario Adams (SO, Eagan, Minn./Eastview HS) scored nine points, Julien Hussherr (JR, Strasbourt, Alsace, France/Episcopal Saint Etienne HS) scored eight points with four rebounds and two assists, and Trent Gomez (SO, Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors HS) and Keenan Rodriguez (JR, Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS) scored seven points each.
• Augsburg connected on 48.3 percent (28-of-58) shooting from the field, compared to 42.1 percent (32-of-76) for the Cougars. The Cougars outrebounded the Auggies by a 46-35 margin.
 
FOR THE FOES
• Pal Dak scored 20 points with six rebounds to lead Minnesota Morris, while Carvin Fish had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
• Brian LaRoche Jr. scored 11 points with seven rebounds and two steals.

• Augsburg opens Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 5:30 p.m., with a game at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn.
