Auggies remain unbeaten, shut out Saints

DULUTH, Minn. – Claiming its third shutout in its five games this season, the Augsburg University women's hockey team scored a 3-0 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory over the College of St. Scholastica on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg, which has now outscored its opponents by a 22-6 margin through its first five games, outshot the Saints by a 38-18 margin, including a 30-7 advantage through the first two periods. Marissa Paaske (JR, Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central HS) claimed her third career shutout, stopping all 18 shots she faced.
• The Auggies scored twice in a 38-second span early in the second period to take the lead. Emily Cronkhite (SR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) scored on a wrist shot from the top of the faceoff circles, off a lead pass by Abbigail Simons (FY, Kasson, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville HS), with Molly Grundhoffer (SO, Cleveland, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS) getting the second assist, at the 4:35 mark.
Alena Glover (JR, Anchorage, Alaska/East HS) scored at the 5:13 mark of the second period. Her rising shot from the right point deflected off a St. Scholastica defender and into the net. Kate Haug (JR, Roseville, Minn./Roseville HS) and Livia Brehm (JR, Detroit Lakes, Minn./Stillwater HS) assisted on the goal.
• The Auggies capped the scoring at the 15:52 mark of the third period, as Nora Stepan (JR, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) scored on a rising shot from the left faceoff dot, off a pass by Brehm, with Annika Mielke (FY, Waconia, Minn./Waconia HS) getting the second assist.

FOR THE FOES
• Makenzie Cole had 35 saves in goal for St. Scholastica.
