Auggies complete shutout sweep of Saints

MINNEAPOLIS – Goalie Kayla Simonson (FY, Delano, Minn./Delano HS) earned her third shutout of the season, and the Augsburg University women's hockey team recorded its fourth shutout in a 5-0-1 start to the season, blanking the College of St. Scholastica for the second game in a row, 3-0, in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg, ranked No. 13 in the latest USCHO.com and No. 11 in the latest D-III Hockey News Division III national polls, outshot St. Scholastica by a 32-18 margin in the game. Simonson recorded her third straight shutout to start her college career, stopping all 18 shots she faced. Simonson has yet to give up a goal in 179:57 in net, making 54 saves.
Kate Haug (JR, Roseville, Minn./Roseville HS) scored her first collegiate goal at the 13:47 mark of the first period, putting home a rebound off a shot by Alena Glover (JR, Anchorage, Alaska/East HS).
Aunna Schulte (FY, Bolingbrook, Ill./Plainfield East HS) scored her first collegiate goal at the 15:51 mark of the second period, collecting a brilliant cross-ice pass from the point by Tenley Stewart (JR, Esko, Minn./Esko HS) and scoring on a rising one-timer from the slot. Nora Stepan (JR, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) had the second assist.
• Thirty-six seconds later, the Auggies struck again, as Annika Mielke (FY, Waconia, Minn./Waconia HS) notched her third goal of the season. Mielke took a pass from Glover in the slot and fired a shot wide. She collected the puck behind the net and scored by shooting the puck off the goalie's back leg and into the net.

• St. Scholastica goalie Kieley Curow had 29 saves.
