Auggies fall 4-2 in battle of ranked teams

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – In a battle of nationally-ranked teams, the Augsburg University women's hockey team suffered a 4-2 defeat at the hands of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg, ranked No. 6 in both the latest USCHO.com and D-III Hockey News Division III national polls, was outshot by a 29-25 margin to UW-Eau Claire, the No. 11-ranked team in the USCHO poll and No. 10-ranked team in the D-III Hockey News poll.  Augsburg was also 0-for-6 on power plays, while the Blugolds scored on one of its six player advantages.
• The Auggies fell behind 2-0 before scoring at the 7:12 mark of the second period, as Emma Abrahamson (SO, Carpentersville, Ill./Hampshire HS) gained a steal in the Blugold zone and fired a wrist shot in the slot for her fifth goal of the season.
• Jenna Allen (FY, Minnetonka, Minn./Holy Family Catholic HS) cut the Blugold lead to 3-2 with a goal with 1:06 left, scoring on a one-timer off a backhand pass from behind the net by Emily Schoeberl (JR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS), with Nora Stepan (JR, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) getting the second assist. 
• Allen and Stepan had four shots on-goal each, with Emily Schoeberl (JR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) and Grace Bonnell (So, Madison, Wis./Memorial HS) collecting three shots each.
Kayla Simonson (FY, Delano, Minn./Delano HS) had 25 saves in goal for the Auggies.

FOR THE FOES
• Sadie Long scored two goals for UW-Eau Claire, including an empty-net goal in the closing seconds. Madisyn Krumholz and Sam Moehle also scored for the Blugolds.
• Kaia Hollingsworth had 23 saves for UW-Eau Claire.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg is now idle for the holiday break, and returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. with a nonconference game at Northland College (Wis.).
