HOW IT HAPPENED
• Auggie goalie
Samuel Vyletelka (JR, Zilina, Slovakia/Grammar School of St. Francis of Assisi) claimed his 11th career shutout and fourth of the season, stopping all 24 shots he faced. The shutout was Vyletelka's second in a row, and his third in his last five starts.
• Five different Auggies scored goals in the game, led by
Peyton Hanson's (SO, Hudson, Wis./Hudson HS) first collegiate multi-goal game. He scored twice in the closing minutes of the first period, firing a shot from the left halfwall that bounced off the goalie's glove and into the net at the 16:04 mark, and taking a feed from
Daniel Chladek (SR, Anaheim, Calif./Canyon HS) and scoring on a break up the right wing at the 19:07 mark.
• Chladek scored his team-leading ninth goal of the season just 1:24 into the game, scoring on a one-timer in the slot off a drive from the right side by
Fritz Belisle (SR, Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing HS).
•
Luke Mountain (JR, Woodbury, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS) scored his third goal of the season at the 14:58 mark of the second period, stealing the puck at his own blue line and sprinting for a breakaway, unassisted goal.
•
Konnor Carlson (SR, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS) gave the Auggies a 5-0 lead three minutes later, tapping in a shot in the slot off a feed by Mountain and
Jake Hale (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./Apex Virtual School).
• The Auggies closed the scoring with a goal midway through the third period by Belisle, who deposited his fifth goal of the season in the slot on a centering feed from behind the net by
Vincent Weis (SR, Madison, Wis./Madison Edgewood HS).
Erik Palmqvist (SR, Linkoping, Sweden/Anderstorpsgymnasiet) had the second assist.
• Augsburg outshot St. Scholastica by a 30-24 margin in the game and recorded 12 blocked shots, led by four from
Dylan Schneider (JR, Rochester, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS).
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Augsburg has now won or shared the MIAC regular-season title 12 times in program history, and its fourth since the 2015-16 season. The title is the first for first-year head coach
Garrett Hendrickson.
• Entering the final game of the regular season on Saturday (2/17), Augsburg has 35 league points, three ahead of Bethel's 32. Should the teams tie for the regular-season title, Augsburg would have the No. 1-seed in the five-team postseason playoffs, based on the second tiebreaker in the postseason criteria -- 11 regulation wins in league play for the Auggies compared to eight for Bethel.
• Playing in the MIAC postseason playoffs for the ninth full season in a row, Augsburg will have a first-round bye and have home-ice advantage, hosting a semifinal game next Saturday (2/24) and potentially the title game on Saturday, March 2.
FOR THE FOES
• Jack Bostedt had 24 saves in goal for St. Scholastica.
UP NEXT
