Auggie lacrosse opens season with loss to Carroll

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg University women's lacrosse team opened its 2024 campaign with a 19-3 home loss to Carroll University (Wis.) on Sunday afternoon at Edor Nelson Field

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Carroll scored the first eight goals of the game and held a 12-2 advantage at halftime. The Pioneers outshot the Auggies by a 35-6 margin in the game, including a 21-5 advantage in the first half. Augsburg was forced to play a player short, with just 11 players, due to an injury and crossover season timing.
• Carroll also had 26 ground balls to Augsburg's 16, and forced 32 Augsburg turnovers, compared to 20 of their own. Augsburg had 14 draw controls to Carroll's 11.
• Jade Wilson (SO, Waukee, Iowa/Northwest HS), who scored a single-season school-record 56 goals last season, scored all three goals for the Auggies on Sunday. She added seven draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover.
Mackenzie Galazen (JR, Kimball, Minn./Rocori HS) contributed three ground balls, three draw controls and three caused turnovers.
• Alexa Hoffman (SR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) had four draw controls, a ground ball and a caused turnover.
Kayla Courtney (SR, Maplewood, Minn./Roseville HS) had two ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Leila Klym (FY, Lakeville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) and Ashley Kong (JR, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) had two ground balls each.
• Goalie Nicole Schuster (SO, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) recorded eight saves, along with three ground balls anda caused turnover.

FOR THE FOES
• Elizabeth Wang scored four goals with three caused turnovers and two draw controls to lead Carroll. Samantha Hurd scored three goals with an assist, adding three ground balls and four caused turnovers.
• Abby Stass scored three goals, and Grace Brockman scored two goals with four assists.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg has its first five games of the season in the Edor Nelson Field dome, and returns to action this Friday (2/23) at 4:30 p.m., hosting Wisconsin-La Crosse.
