Auggies fall 23-8 to Eagles

MINNEAPOLIS -- Using a 9-3 scoring advantage in the second quarter to build a dominant lead, the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse claimed a 23-8 nonconference win over host Augsburg University in women's lacrosse action on Friday afternoon at Edor Nelson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Playing with just 11 players, Augsburg kept the game close in the early stages, trailing just 6-4 early in the second quarter after Alexa Hoffman (SR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) scored three goals, including one on a free-position shot. But the Eagles scored five goals over a 3:27 span to pull ahead 12-5, and eventually led 14-6 at the halftime break. The Eagles outscored the Auggies 9-2 in the second half to secure the victory.
• UW-La Crosse outshot Augsburg by a 43-17 margin, including a 28-9 advantage in the first half. The Eagles had 21 draw controls to Augsburg's 12, and had 19 ground balls to Augsburg's 11. The Eagles forced 17 Augsburg turnovers, while committing 11.
• Jade Wilson (SO, Waukee, Iowa/Northwest HS) scored four goals with five ground balls, six draw controls and a caused turnover to lead the Auggies.
• In addition to her three goals, Hoffman added five draw controls and a ground ball.
Eleanor Flynn (SO, Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge HS) scored a goal with an assist.
Mackenzie Galazen (JR, Kimball, Minn./Rocori HS) had two ground balls, a draw control and a caused turnover.
• Goalie Nicole Schuster (SO, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) recorded 12 saves, along with two ground balls.

FOR THE FOES
• Ava Schiltz scored six goals with nine draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover to lead UW-La Crosse.
• Megan Feeney scored five goals, and Britta Nelson scored three goals with three draw controls.
