Vyletelka pitches shutout in goal in Auggie win

MOORHEAD, Minn.– Goalie Samuel Vyletelka (JR, Zilina, Slovakia/Grammar School of St. Francis of Assisi) claimed his ninth career shutout with a 40-save effort, leading the Augsburg University men's hockey team in a 4-0 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey victory over Concordia College-Moorhead on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Vyletelka claimed his second 40-plus-save effort of the season, and 14th game with 30 or more saves, stopping all 40 shots he faced in claiming his second shutout of the season and ninth of his 54-game collegiate career. Augsburg was outshot by a 40-29 margin in the game.
Landon Parker (FY, East Grand Forks, Minn./East Grand Forks HS) opened the scoring for the Auggies with a goal at the 12:52 mark of the first period, putting home a shot from the right point by Gunnar Williams (FY, Elgin, Ill./University of Nebraska HS), with the second assist going to Nick Catalano (SO, Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead Union HS).
• Michael Ferrandino (JR, Lisle, Ill./Waterloo West (Iowa) HS) scored in the second period on a shot from the point, assisted by Fritz Belisle (SR, Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing HS) and Duke Kiffin (FY, Shorewood, Minn./Minnetonka HS).
• The Auggies scored twice in the final two minutes of play, on an empty-net goal from deep in their own zone by Peyton Hanson (SO, Hudson, Wis./Hudson HS), and on a goal with 25 seconds left by Ferrandino, assisted by Jake Hale (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./Apex Virtual School) and Luke Mountain (JR, Woodbury, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS).

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• The game marked the first win for Augsburg first-year head coach Garrett Hendrickson over his alma mater. Hendrickson was three-time All-MIAC Honorable Mention forward for the Cobbers (2013-17), scoring 26 goals with 45 assists for 71 points in 100 career games.

FOR THE FOES
• Matt Fitzgerald had 25 saves in goal for Concordia.
