TUCSON, Ariz. – The Augsburg University baseball team opened up play at the Tucson Invitational Games on Sunday, dropping a pair of games to Sul Ross State University and Edgewood College at Kino Sports Complex.
THE BASICS

GAME ONE: SUL ROSS 11, AUGSBURG 6
• The Auggies found an early spark in their first game of the day, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first behind RBI from
Ty Gage (SR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS),
Adam Marshall (JR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS), and
Josh Udelhofen (JR, Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig HS).
• The Lobos captured the momentum from that point, scoring one each in the second and third and adding three in the fourth to take a 5-3 lead.
•
Andruw Vela (FY, St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) reignited the Auggie offense in the fourth, lacing a triple to right field that scored Udelhofen and cut the deficit to a single run. Just one at bat later,
Carter Peterson (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) brought Vela in to score with a sacrifice fly to center field, tying the game at five each.
• With runners on second and third in the bottom of the seventh,
Joe Peterson (SO, Victoria, Minn./Chanhassen HS) hit into a fielder's choice that saw Marshall get thrown out at third base, but allowed Gage to score and restore the Augsburg lead.
• Trailing 6-5 entering the ninth inning, the Lobo offense came to life with a five-run inning that gave them an 11-6 advantage that would hold for the remainder of the game.

Austin Lang (SO, Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS) made the start on the mound for Augsburg, allowing eight hits and four earned runs while striking out two batters in 4.0 innings of work.
Owen Bernards (SR, St. Paul, Minn./Central HS) pitched the following 4.1 innings of relief, being charged with the loss after giving up four hits and three earned runs while recording five strikeouts.

Stanley Regguinti (SO, St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) and Marshall each had a three-hit game for the Auggies, going 3-for-4 and 3-for-5, respectively.
GAME TWO: EDGEWOOD 15, AUGSBURG 4
• The Augsburg bats came to life early once again in their second outing of the afternoon, with two runs each in the first and second innings to take a 4-0 lead. Marshall and Udelhofen each recorded RBI in the first while
Keegan O'Connor's (JR, Roselle, Ill./James B. Conant HS) triple and Gage's double each plated a run in the second.
• It was all Eagles for the remainder of the game as Edgewood scored 15 unanswered runs to end the game in the seventh inning.
• Starting pitcher
Myer Schmitz (JR, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) was ultimately charged with the loss, allowing four hits and four earned runs with three strikeouts in 2.2 innings of work.
Kell Piggott (SO, Superior, Wis./Superior HS) was effective in his 1.1 innings of relief, holding the Eagles hitless while fanning one batter.
• Gage was the only Auggie with multiple hits in the game, finishing 2-for-3 with a run batted in and a run scored.
FOR THE FOES
• Aaron Morales finished 4-for-5 with three runs scored for the Lobos.
• Kyle Sagan went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Eagles with three RBI.
