Auggie softball splits pair in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Augsburg University softball team split a pair of games at THE Spring Games on Monday, dropping its first game of the season in a 13-2, five-inning loss to No. 12-ranked Belhaven University, but rallying back for an 8-6 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

BELHAVEN GAME HIGHLIGHTS
• Belhaven, ranked No. 12 in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III national rankings, scored five runs in the first inning, three runs in the second inning and five runs in the third inning to end the game early via the NCAA eight-run rule. 
• Augsburg scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning. Olivia Funk (JR, Lewiston, Minn./Lewiston-Altura HS) hit a double to center and came around to score on a groundout by Olivia Hennager (SO, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS). Zoie Johnson (JR, Carlton, Minn./Esko HS) plated pinch-runner Megan Gissler (FY, Louisville, Neb./Louisville HS) on a single.
Olivia O'Connor (SR, White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) pitched the first three innings, with Libby Moore (SR, Springville, Iowa/Springville HS) striking out one in two innings of scoreless relief.

UW-STOUT GAME HIGHLIGHTS
• Trailing 4-0 going into the fourth inning, Augsburg rallied with six runs in the fourth inning and two runs in the fifth to claim the victory. 
Morgann Paaske (JR, Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central HS) struck out three against five walks and six hits to pick up the pitching win, improving to 5-0 on the season.
• Augsburg sent nine batters to the plate to score six runs on four hits in the fourth inning. After a bases-loaded walk, Jayden Evenson (SO, Mosinee, Wis./Mosinee HS) hit a two-run double, and three runs scored when Katie Manecke (SR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) singled and came around on a three-base error. 
• Two runs came across for the Auggies in the fifth inning, when Jaime Olson (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) reached base on a fielder's choice and error.
• Evenson went 3-for-3 for the Auggies against the Blue Devils, while Johnson, Hennager and Lola Pilon (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Mounds Park Academy HS) had two hits each.

FOR THE FOES
• Allie Gordon went 3-for-3 with two runs scored for Belhaven, while Natalie Parker went 2-for-2 with three RBI and a run scored.
• Ariana Temmers went 2-for-3 for UW-Stout, and Stephanie Kuhn scored two runs.

• Augsburg takes on Albertus Magnus (Conn.) at 9:15 a.m. and McMurry (Texas) at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday (3/13) in Leesburg, Fla., at THE Spring Games.
