SEWANEE, Tenn. – Scoring the final four goals of the game in the last 6:13 of play, Southwestern University claimed a 16-12 victory over Augsburg University in a nonconference women's lacrosse game on Tuesday afternoon at the University of the South (Sewanee).

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The game was a back-and-forth affair, with neither team leading by more than two goals until late in the third quarter. Southwestern scored three straight goals in the final 7:38 of the third quarter to take a 12-9 lead, but Augsburg -- playing with only 10 players -- answered with three goals in a 2:33 span to tie the game at 12-12. The Pirates scored the final four goals of the game, including two goals on man-up situations, to claim the victory.

Jade Wilson (SO, Waukee, Iowa/Northwest HS) claimed her 10th career game with four or more goals, scoring four goals with two assists for six points, adding 11 draw controls, nine ground balls and three caused turnovers. Wilson now has 23 goals and five assists for 28 points in her first six games of the season,
leading the Midwest Lacrosse Conference in goals while standing fourth in points.

Alexa Hoffman (SR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) scored four goals for the Auggies, adding two draw controls and six ground balls.

Jessica Paul (SO, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS) scored two goals with an assist and two ground balls.

Mackenzie Galazen (JR, Kimball, Minn./Rocori HS) scored two goals with six ground balls and two ground balls.

Ashley Kong (JR, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) recorded two caused turnovers with a draw control and a ground ball.
• Making her first collegiate start in goal,
Abaigeal Luallen (SO, Pensacola, Fla./Pensacola HS) had two saves in the first half.
Emma Meythaler (JR, Golden Valley, Minn./Hopkins HS), seeing her first action in goal since the 2022 season, had four saves and two ground balls.
• Augsburg outshot Southwestern by a 29-28 margin, and had 31 ground balls to Southwestern's 30. Augsburg had 16 draw controls to Southwestern's 14.
FOR THE FOES
• Raquel Kurth scored 10 goals with five caused turnovers, seven draw controls and seven ground balls for Southwestern.
• Emma Bethke had 12 saves in goal for the Pirates.
