Auggies open Florida trip with pair of wins

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Olivia Funk (JR, Lewiston, Minn./Lewiston-Altura HS) went 4-for-7 on the day with a home run and three runs scored, leading the Augsburg University softball team in a pair of wins to open the Auggies' spring break trip to Florida on Saturday. Augsburg scored a pair of one-run wins, topping Mitchell College 4-3 and New England College 6-5.

MITCHELL GAME HIGHLIGHTS
• Funk connected on her first collegiate home run in the bottom of the fifth inning, giving Augsburg a 4-3 lead. She finished the game going 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and a walk. 
• Meanwhile, Olivia O'Connor (SR, White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) had a strong game in the pitching circle, striking out eight against one walk and six hits. Only one of the three runs charged to her were earned.
• The Auggies scored twice in the first inning, as Funk and Torrie Rehder (JR, Goodhue, Minn./Goodhue HS) scored on a two-run single by Zoie Johnson (JR, Carlton, Minn./Esko HS). In the third inning, Olivia Hennager (SO, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS) plated Rehder on an RBI single.

NEW ENGLAND GAME HIGHLIGHTS
• Augsburg used a four-run second inning to take the lead and scored two runs in the fifth inning, then held off a late New England College comeback to improve to 8-0 on the season.
• RBI singles by Olivia Dynneson (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) and Katie Manecke (SR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) brought in the Auggies first two runs of the game, and Rehder followed with a two-run double to left-center. 
• Augsburg scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning on a bases-loaded walk and a passed ball.
• Pitcher Morgann Paaske (JR, Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central HS) improved to 4-0 on the season, pitching the first five innings with a strikeout against a walk. Libby Moore (SR, Springville, Iowa/Springville HS) pitched the final two scoreless innings to pick up the save.
• Manecke, Rehder and Funk had two hits each in the game, with each scoring a run.

FOR THE FOES
• Sarah Aviles went 3-for-3 with an RBI for Mitchell in the opening game.
• Emma Lopez went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and three RBI for New England College.
