Auggies complete season sweep of Scots

ST. PAUL, Minn. –The Augsburg University baseball team faced off with Macalester College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon following a single nonconference meeting during the teams' prior spring break trip, with Augsburg completing the season sweep of the Scots with a 3-2 win in game one and a 5-4 win in game two.

GAME ONE: AUGSBURG 3, MACALESTER 2
Andruw Vela (FY, St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) put the Auggies on the board in the top of the second with a double to center field that scored Austin Lang (SO, Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS).
• After the Scots scored a run each in the fourth and fifth to take a 2-1 lead, Vela tied the game with a solo homer to right field in the seventh inning, the first of his career.
• A scheduled seven-inning game, the contest was sent to extra innings with a 2-2 tie. Adam Marshall (JR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) played the hero for Augsburg in the top of the eighth, belting a double to left field to score Stanley Regguinti (SO, St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) and put Augsburg up 3-2, a score that would hold for the remainder of the game.
Vincent Rupp (SO, Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline HS) was effective as Augsburg's starting pitcher, giving up just six hits and one earned run with three strikeouts in five full innings of work. Sean Littmann (JR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) picked up the win in relief of Rupp, allowing four hits and holding the Scots scoreless in his two innings. Owen Bernards (SR, St. Paul, Minn./Central HS) and Lang combined to pitch the final inning, with Lang earning the save after entering the game with the tying run on second.
• Marshall finished the game 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and Vela was 2-for-3 with a double and home run.

GAME TWO: AUGSBURG 5, MACALESTER 4

• Marshall started the scoring in game two with an RBI single in the first inning, and Joe Peterson (SO, Victoria, Minn./Chanhassen HS) added to the Auggie lead with another RBI single in the second inning to make it 2-0.
Josh Udelhofen (JR, Janesville, Minn./Janesville Craig HS) would extend the Auggie lead to three with a sacrifice bunt in the fourth that scored Drew Jenkins (SO, Farmington, Minn./Randolph HS). One inning later, a pair of RBI hits from Marshall and Lang would make it 5-0 in favor of Augsburg.
• The Scots would get on the board with a single run in the bottom of the fifth and add three in the sixth, making it 5-4, but that proved to be all the scoring as the Auggies hung on to complete the sweep.
• Marshall anchored the Auggie offense in game two, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Vela was also 2-for-4 on the game.
Jake Pittelkow (SO, Roseville, Minn./Simley HS) made the start on the mound and earned the win for Augsburg, allowing seven hits and two earned runs with eight strikeouts against just two walks in five full innings of work. Jake Skogrand (JR, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) closed the final two innings for Augsburg, picking up the save while allowing three hits and a single unearned run while fanning one batter.
 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Following the game, Augsburg outfielder Stanley Regguinti (SO, St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) leads the MIAC in batting average and ranks fifth in on-base plus slugging percentage. He has gone 30-for-66 at the plate (.455) with seven doubles, a triple, and a home run for an OPS of 1.202.

FOR THE FOES
• Scots infielder Matt Odom had an efficient day at the plate, batting a combined 6-for-8 with two RBI and a run scored.

• Augsburg will host Crown College at Parade Stadium in a single nine-inning game on Monday, April 15 at 6 pm.
