NORTHFIELD, Minn. –The Augsburg University baseball team took on Carleton College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, splitting with the Knights with a 6-4 win in game one and a 14-9 loss in game two.

GAME ONE: AUGSBURG 6, CARLETON 4
• After the Knights put a pair of runs on the board in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead, Augsburg responded with a two-run third inning to even the game at 2-2.
Josh Udelhofen (JR, Janesville, Minn./Janesville Craig HS) was the first Auggie to score, crossing the plate on a Carleton error, while
Austin Lang (SO, Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS) batted in
Ty Gage (SR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) for the second run.
• Carleton took another lead at 3-2 with a run in the fifth, but a pair of Auggies managed to score on another Knights error in the sixth, putting Augsburg on top for the first time in the game.
• A Carleton RBI triple would make it a 4-4 game through six innings.
Lance Nayman (SR, St. Paul, Minn./Central HS) provided the spark Augsburg needed, belting a solo homer, his first of the season and the second of his career, over the right field fence to put Augsburg on top for good. An RBI single from
Carter Peterson (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) would give Augsburg an insurance run later in the inning.

Myer Schmitz (JR, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) started the game on the bump, going five innings and giving up six hits and three earned runs with six strikeouts comparted to three walks. Reliever
Sean Littmann (JR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) picked up the win, pitching the final two innings and allowing just one hit and one run with two strikeouts.
• Lang finished 2-for-3 at the plate while
Adam Marshall (JR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) was 2-for-4.
GAME TWO: CARLETON 14, AUGSBURG 9
• The Knights drew blood in the bottom of the first once again, putting four runs on the board.
Drew Jenkins (SO, Farmington, Minn./Randolph HS) responded in the next half inning for the Auggies, hitting a two-run home run to left field to pull Augsburg within two.
• Andrew Vela (FY, St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) came up big in the third inning, plating three runs with a bases-clearing double to put Augsburg on top 5-4. The Augsburg lead would expand to 7-4 in the fifth when two runners scored on a Carleton error.
• The Knights would go on to score 10 unanswered runs through the next three innings to take a 14-7 lead. RBI from Jenkins and Vela brought the Auggies within five in the ninth inning, but that proved to be all they could do.
• Jenkins finished 2-for-5 with a home run, a double, two RBI, and three runs scored. Gage was the only other Auggie with multiple hits, also going 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored.
FOR THE FOES
• Carleton left fielder Sam Gossard went a combined 5-for-9 at the plate with a double, a triple, five RBI, and two runs scored.
