Auggies drop pair to No. 17 Royals

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. -- The Augsburg University softball team dropped a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader at Bethel University on Tuesday afternoon, falling 8-3 and 9-0 in five innings.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Augsburg jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two-and-a-half innings, but Bethel scored six runs in the bottom of the third inning and two more in the sixth to claim the first-game victory.
• Zoie Johnson (JR, Carlton, Minn./Esko HS) hit a two-out double to drive home Katie Manecke (SR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) in the top of the first inning.
• In the third inning, Torrie Rehder (JR, Goodhue, Minn./Goodhue HS) singled, then scored from first on a single by Lola Pilon (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Mounds Park Academy HS). Johnson reached base on an outfield error, which enabled Pilon to score.
• Manecke had two of Augsburg's six hits in the game.
• Olivia O'Connor (SR, White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) struck out one against two walks and 11 hits in five innings of work, with Libby Moore (SR, Springville, Iowa/Springville HS) striking out one against one walk in the sixth.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• Augsburg was limited to four hits in the second game, shortened to five innings due to the NCAA eight-run rule. Pilon had a double, and Rehder, Johnson and Jaime Olson (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) also had singles.
• Morgann Paaske (JR, Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central HS) struck out three against one walk and 10 hits in the second game. Just three of the nine runs charged to her were earned, as the Auggies committed five errors in the game.

FOR THE FOES
• Kayla Simacek struck out 10 against one walk in a complete-game victory in the first game for Bethel, ranked No. 17 in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III national rankings.
• Rylee Blandin had three strikeouts against two walks for the Royals in the second game.

• Augsburg travels to face Saint Mary's in an MIAC doubleheader on Saturday (4/27) at 1 p.m. in Winona, Minn.
