MINNEAPOLIS – Getting solid pitching performances and using timely hitting, the Augsburg University baseball team gained a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep of Hamline University on Saturday afternoon.
THE BASICS
SCORE: Augsburg 7, Hamline 2; Augsburg 4, Hamline 3 (11 inn.)

GAME ONE: AUGSBURG 7, HAMLINE 2
• The Pipers managed to score first with a single run in the top of the second, but
Stanley Regguinti (SO, St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) answered immediately for the Auggies with an RBI triple that allowed both
Josh Udelhofen (JR, Janesville, Minn./Janesville Craig HS) and
Andruw Vela (FY, St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) to score.

Lance Nayman (SR, St. Paul, Minn./Central HS) would extend the Auggie lead to 5-1 with a two-run homer in the fourth, his second of the season.
• The Pipers cut the deficit to three with a run in the fifth, but that proved to be all they could do as Augsburg added runs in the fifth and sixth off the bats of Udelhofen and
Adam Marshall (JR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) to secure the 7-2 win.

Myer Schmitz (JR, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) earned his first win of the season on the mound, going a full five innings and allowing six hits and just two earned runs with three strikeouts and three walks. Entering the game in a tough spot with the bases loaded and no outs in the sixth,
Austin Lang (SO, Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS) managed to pitch out of the jam with three consecutive strikeouts. Coming back out to finish the game in the seventh, Lang earned his second save of the season as he retired the side to complete the victory.
• Marshall went 3-for-3 at the plate with one RBI and one run scored while Udelhofen was 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored.
GAME TWO: AUGSBURG 4, HAMLINE 3 (11 innings)
• It was the Auggies drawing first blood in game two when Marshall hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Regguinti in the bottom of the first.
• After the Pipers added runs in the second and fourth innings to take a 2-1 lead.
Ty Gage (SR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) provided an equalizer with an RBI single in the seventh that scored pinch runner
Davis Wick (FY, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS). Just one at bat later, Marshall plated Regguinti for the second time with an RBI single to center field to give Augsburg a 3-2 lead.
• The Pipers evened the game at three each with a run in the eighth, eventually sending the game to extra innings. Marshall played the hero for the Auggies in the bottom of the 11th, singling to center field and allowing Regguinti to reach home plate and walk it off 4-3.

Jake Pittelkow (SO, Roseville, Minn./Simley HS) made the start on the mound for the Auggies, giving up six hits and two earned runs while striking out five with no walks in six innings of work.
Jake Skogrand (JR, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) pitched the final five innings, earning the win after holding the Pipers to just four hits and a single run with three strikeouts.
• Marshall was 2-for-5 with three RBI in game two while Regguinti was 2-for-5 with three runs scored and Gage finished 3-for-5.
FOR THE FOES
• Max Gerstner finished the day 4-for-8 with an RBI and two runs scored.

• Augsburg is scheduled to host Hamline once again in a single nonconference game on Sunday, April 28 at Parade Stadium, weather permitting.
