Van Well reaches 1,000 mark in career kills

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Bri Van Well (SR, Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) became the sixth player in Augsburg University volleyball history to reach the 1,000 mark in career kills, collecting 30 kills on Saturday in a pair of nonconference matches. The Auggies scored a 3-0 sweep of Simpson College, and lost a five-set match to North Central University.

BRI VAN WELL REACHES 1,000 KILLS
• With 52 kills in four matches on the weekend, Van Well became the sixth player in Augsburg history to reach the 1,000-kill plateau for her career. Competing in 101 career matches (348 sets) in five seasons, she now has 1,011 kills, putting her in sixth place in school history in the category. Her 2.91 kills per-set career average is fourth-best in school history. Her 151 kills this season are currently fourth-best among MIAC players.

AUGSBURG 3, SIMPSON 0
• Augsburg hit .265 as a team, with 42 kills against just 12 errors in 113 attacks, in dispatching Simpson in three sets -- 25-20, 25-21 and 25-15. 
• Van Well led the Auggies with 12 kills, hitting .294, while Ava Carlson (FY, Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS) had seven kills, four service aces and 12 digs. 
• Augsburg spread around the offensive attack, with five players recording five or more kills. Madison Gully (SR, Oak Grove, Minn./St. Francis HS) had six kills, and Elizabeth Oster (SO, Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) and Taylor Hoehns (JR, Cedar Falls, Iowa/Dike-New Hartford HS) claimed five kills each.
• Angel Vo (SR, Blaine, Minn./Mounds View HS) and Jovial King (SO, Caledonia, Minn./Caledonia HS) split setting duties, with Vo contributing 15 assists and 10 digs, and King claiming 15 assists and 13 digs. Brier Ziemer (SR, Carver, Minn./Chaska HS) had 17 digs.

NORTH CENTRAL 3, AUGSBURG 2
• The second match for the Auggies was a back-and-forth affair, with North Central winning the first set 27-25, Augsburg winning the second set 25-21, North Central winning the third set 25-23, Augsburg winning the fourth set 25-21 and North Central prevailing in the deciding set 15-11.
• Van Well had a season-high 18 kills, hitting .224, and added 15 digs for her second double-double of the season. She has now had double-digit kill totals in 10 of her 11 matches this year.
• Carlson, who earned Cornell Classic All-Tournament Team honors, claimed her second double-double of the season with a 14-kill, 10-dig effort, hitting .238. 
• Oster had seven kills and four block assists, Hoehns had six kills and two block assists, and GK LeMonds (SR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) had five kills and two block assists.
• Vo had 33 assists, nine digs and two service aces, and King had 20 assists and eight digs. Elise Uphoff (SO, Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield HS) had 20 digs.

FOR THE FOES
• Simpson's Emmy Seiler had nine kills in the opening match.
• For North Central, Isabelle Guerrero had 19 kills, while Maddi Barickman had 52 assists, 16 digs and eight kills.
