MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg University dominated Hamline University in nearly every facet of Wednesday's Minnesota Intercollegiate Conference women's soccer opener, but could not put the ball in the net, as the teams played a scoreless tie at Edor Nelson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg had a 28-5 advantage in shots, including a 7-2 advantage in shots on-goal. The Auggies had four corner kicks to none by Hamline, and the Auggies held a 63-to-37-percent possession advantage.
• Augsburg's best scoring chance came in the 78th minute, when a
Jayla Ponce (SR, Kuna, Idaho/Kuna HS) free kick from 22 yards out deflected off the crossbar.
• The Auggie defensive backfield of
Avery Rich (FY, Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka HS),
Samantha Meyer (SR, Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS),
Hannah Hatfield (JR, Rogers, Ark./Rogers HS) and
Grace Dickerson (JR, Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS) held firm, preventing the Pipers from mounting any sustained attacks. Hatfield, Rich and Meyer joined Ponce and multi-position player

• Ponce had 10 shots, incluidng three on-goal, to lead the Auggies. Dickerson had two shots on-goal.
