NEW ULM, Minn. -- Outgaining the hosts by a 438-207 margin, the Augsburg University football team had a dominant performance in a 34-7 nonconference victory at Martin Luther College on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Quarterback
Marcus Freeman (JR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS), making his first start as an Auggie after transferring from Division I South Carolina State, completed 19-of-28 passes for 280 yards and two touchdowns, both to
Tyrone Wilson (JR, Ellendale, Minn./New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva HS). Wilson scored on a 45-yard touchdown in the first quarter, catching a pass on the right sideline and escaping an MLC defender to run in for the score. His second touchdown came on a five-yard back-shoulder pass to the left corner of the end zone, capping an eight-play, 88-yard drive.
• Wilson caught eight passes for a career-high 165 yards -- the most receiving yards for an Auggie in a game since
Braden Tretter caught 12 balls for 182 yards in the Auggies' 50-13 win over St. Scholastica on Sept. 24, 2022. He had three receptions of 20-plus yards -- the 45-yarder for a touchdown, a 56-yarder in the second quarter and a 28-yarder in the fourth quarter.

Tyrique Givance (SR, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) claimed his first 100-yard receiving game in his two seasons as an Auggie, catching nine passes for 111 yards. He had five catches of 10 or more yards, including a 27-yarder in the first quarter and a 23-yarder in the second quarter.
• Augsburg had a balanced offensive effort, with 280 passing yards and 158 rushing yards. Augsburg averaged 7.8 yards per-play on its 56 offensive plays, while the Auggie defense limited Martin Luther to just 207 yards. The Knights averaged just 2.9 yards per-play on their 72 offensive plays.
• Running back
Lamar Webb Jr. (JR, Milwaukee, Wis./Rufus King HS), a transfer from Division II Concordia-St. Paul, rushed five times for 61 yards and two touchdowns. He scored on a 51-yard scamper in the second quarter, breaking three tackle attempts by MLC players along the way. His second score came on a six-yard rush in the third quarter, capping a nine-play, 71-yard drive.

Will Smith (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./North HS) rushed 13 times for 83 yards for the Auggies.
• Defensive back
Jax Bokman (JR, Faribault, Minn./Bethlehem Academy HS) capped the scoring for Augsburg with his third career interception, scoring on a 45-yard return early in the fourth quarter.
• Augsburg defenders claimed eight quarterback sacks for 57 yards -- the most by the team since an eight-sack performance in a 12-7 Auggie win over Hamline on Oct. 28, 2000. Augsburg claimed a total of 14.0 tackles for-loss on Saturday, sending the Knights back 72 yards. Ten different Auggies were part of sacks in the game, with
Griffin Thom (SO, Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) and
Dylan Owens (JR, Andover, Minn./Andover HS) each collecting 1.5 sacks.

Rio Starr (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) had eight tackles (five solo), with 2.0 tackles for-loss.
Gerald Shepherd Jr. (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) had seven tackles (six solo) and a half-sack. Thom had six tackles (three solo) with 3.0 tackles for-loss,
Elijah Beckfeld (JR, Apple Valley, Minn./Apple Valley HS) had six tackles (four solo), and Owens had 2.5 tackles for-loss.
FOR THE FOES
• Brady Turriff completed 22-of-36 passes for 197 yards and a touchdown, a 16-yard pass to Andrew Raasch late in the first half.
• Matthew Hillmer had nine tackles (five solo), and Joey Ehlke had two of MLC's five sacks on the day.
