Auggies drop five-setter at St. Scholastica

DULUTH, Minn. – The Augsburg University volleyball team opened Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a five-set loss at the College of St. Scholastica on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg was paced by Ava Carlson (FY, Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS), who had 16 kills on .333 hitting, adding two block assists and seven digs.
• As a team, the Auggies hit .202 in the match, paced by a .348 attack percentage in the first set. But St. Scholastica hit .360 in the final set and had 11 team blocks in the match to Augsburg's five.
Taylor Hoehns (JR, Cedar Falls, Iowa/Dike-New Hartford HS) had 10 kills and two block assists, while Madison Gully (SR, Oak Grove, Minn./St. Francis HS) had nine kills and Elizabeth Oster (SO, Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) had eight kills. Bri Van Well (SR, Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) had five kills, three service aces and eight digs.
Angel Vo (SR, Blaine, Minn./Mounds View HS) had 21 assists and 12 digs, while Jovial King (SO, Caledonia, Minn./Caledonia HS) had 20 assists and three digs. Maggie Lile (SO, Spring Grove, Minn./Spring Grove HS) had eight digs and Elise Uphoff (SO, Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield HS) had seven digs.

FOR THE FOES
• St. Scholastica was led by Kaitlyn Jones, who had 13 kills, 11 digs and three block assists.
• Ava Swangstue had 11 kills and eight blocks (four solo).
