Auggie women draw with Wildcats

MENOMONIE, Wis. --  Jayla Ponce (SR, Kuna, Idaho/Kuna HS) scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season in the 35th minute, as her Augsburg University women's soccer team claimed a 1-1 tie with St. Catherine University on Saturday afternoon at Edor Nelson Field.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg 1, St. Catherine 1
LOCATION: Edor Nelson Field, Minneapolis
RECORDS: Augsburg 4-2-3 overall (0-0-3 MIAC), St. Catherine 5-2-2 overall (2-0-1 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg scored its goal in the 35th minute. Holland Kneefe (FY, Albertville, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) gained the ball in the middle third off a pass from Megan Hensel (SR, Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS), and popped a nice through ball to a charging Ponce into the 18-yard box. Ponce gathered the ball, took her time and deposited a crossing, left-footed shot from left to right for the goal.
• The Wildcats tied the game in the 51st minute, and neither team could get the go-ahead goal in an evenly-matched, physical game. St. Catherine held the ball for a 53-to-47-percent advantage over the Auggies, and outshot the Auggies by a 14-8 margin. Augsburg had five shots on-goal to St. Catherine's three. St. Catherine had eight corner kicks to Augsburg's zero.
Tess Enlow (JR, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) had two saves in goal for the Auggies.
