Auggie women rally from early deficit to win

MINNEAPOLIS -- Rallying from an early 12-point deficit, the Augsburg University women's basketball team scored a 59-56 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory over St. Olaf College on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• St. Olaf jumped out to a 14-2 lead in the first 5:40 of play and led 16-10 after the first quarter, extending the lead to as many as nine points in the second frame. Trailing 25-22 at halftime, Augsburg slowly chipped away at the Ole advantage, eventually taking the lead at 32-30 with 7:00 left in the third period. Augsburg never trailed the rest of the way, but the game was tied six times down the stretch. 
Lani Fonoti (FY, Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS) claimed her second straight sesaon-high scoring performance, leading the Auggies with 19 points. She added two blocked shots.
Katie Manecke (SR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) scored a career-high 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field, adding four assists and three rebounds.
• Amira LaDuke (JR, Cass Lake, Minn./Cass Lake-Bena HS) had her second career double-double, scoring 11 points with 10 rebounds and two blocked shots.
Jada Stanford (FY, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Champlin Park HS) scored six points with a season-high 10 rebounds, along with two steals. Maecee Alexander (SO, St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) also scored six points.

FOR THE FOES
• Chloee Smith scored 22 points with nine rebounds and three steals to lead St. Olaf.
• Sophia Kormann scored 14 points with five rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot.

• Augsburg hosts the College of Saint Benedict in MIAC play on Wednesday (1/22) at 7:30 p.m. at Si Melby Hall.
