Auggie men claim impressive win at Bethel

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. -- Playing one of its most impressive games of the season, the Augsburg University men's basketball team led from start to finish in a 97-82 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory at Bethel University on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg held the lead for all but the opening 54 seconds of the game, sprinting to an 11-point lead in the first 6:22 of the first half and leading by as many as 25 points in the second half. The Auggies connected on 61.9 percent (39-of-63) shooting from the field -- its second 60-percent-plus shooting performance in a four-game span -- including a season-best-tying 11 three-pointers.
• All 10 Auggies who saw game action scored, with four players scoring in double figures. Julien Hussherr (JR, Strasbourg, Alsace, France/Episcopal Saint Etienne HS) had his best performance in an Augsburg uniform after transferring from Illinois Wesleyan, scoring 19 points with seven assists and four steals -- all season-bests. He shot 6-of-8 from the field, including 3-of-4 from three-point range.
• Andy Stafford (SR, Hopkins, Minn./Hopkins HS) scored 15 points, including four 3-pointers, with six rebounds and two assists, his 12th double-digit scoring game of the season. Elias Batala (SO, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) also scored 15 points, adding three assists and two steals.
Trent Gomez (SO, Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors HS) scored 13 points with three assists and two steals, and Myles Adams (SO, Eagan, Minn./Eastview HS) scored nine points.
• Mario Adams (SO, Eagan, Minn./Eastview HS) scored eight points with seven assists and two steals, and Will Blascziek (SR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) scored eight points iwth three assists, three steals and two blocked shots.
• Augsburg's balanced attack included an impressive 29 assists on the Auggies' 39 made field goals. The Auggies dominated in the post, with a 54-30 points-in-paint advantage. The Auggies also scored 26 points off of 20 Bethel turnovers.

FOR THE FOES
• Nick Burke scored 23 points with five rebounds to lead Bethel.
• Caden Boettcher scored 20 points with seven rebounds, four assists and two steals.

• Augsburg hosts Gustavus Adolphus College in an MIAC contest on Saturday (2/1) at 3 p.m. at Si Melby Hall.
