Auggies dominate Pipers in 4-0 triumph

MINNEAPOLIS -- Jayla Ponce (SR, Kuna, Idaho/Kuna HS) scored a pair of goals, and Allison Hookom (SR, Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS) and Kaidin Camp (SR, Robbinsdale, Minn./Cooper HS) added scoring tallies, as the Augsburg University women's soccer team dominated Hamline University in a 4-0 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win on Saturday evening.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg 4, Hamline 0
LOCATION: Edor Nelson Field, Minneapolis
RECORDS: Augsburg 7-5-0 overall (4-2-0 MIAC), Hamline 3-5-6 overall (1-4-1 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Now tied for the MIAC's scoring lead with 12 goals, Ponce scored in the 32nd and 66th minutes for her 11th career multi-goal game and fourth of the season. Her first-half goal came on a lead pass from Abby Rosebur (SR, South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul HS), who stole a Hamline throw-in. Ponce charged at the goal, eluding a defender and a diving Piper goalkeeper to chase the ball to the net. Her second goal came in the 66th minute, as she took a forward pass from Lennon Folstad (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Central HS), made a move to her left past two Hamline defenders, and sliced the ball to the goal.
• Hookom scored her third goal of the season 56 seconds into the second half, taking a feed off a steal by McKenna Nachreiner (JR, Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee HS) and striking a rising shot to the top right corner of the net.
• A transfer from St. Catherine University, Camp scored her first goal in an Auggie uniform in the 89th minute, claiming a loose ball in the top left corner of the 18-yard box, and blasting a shot off the crossbar and in the goal.
• Augsburg controlled the flow of play throughout the game, with a 16-7 shots advantage, including a 9-4 edge in shots on-goal.
Claire Smothers (SO, Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City HS) had four saves in goal to score her fourth shutout of the season and Augsburg's seventh as a team. The Auggies have now outscored their opponents by a 26-11 margin, and have now won five of their last six games.
