Auggies drop 3-1 decision to Royals

MINNEAPOLIS -- McKenna Nachreiner (JR, Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee HS) scored for Augsburg University in the 23rd minute, but Bethel University scored three straight goals to claim a 3-1 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer victory on Tuesday evening.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Bethel 3, Augsburg 1
LOCATION: Edor Nelson Field, Minneapolis
RECORDS: Augsburg 7-6-0 overall (4-3-0 MIAC), Bethel 2-11-1 overall (2-5-0 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Nachreiner scored her fourth goal of the season in the 23rd minute. Phoebe Alva Rosa (SR, Jackson, Wyo./Jackson Hole HS) fed the ball from the right back to Jayla Ponce (SR, Kuna, Idaho/Kuna HS), who threaded a forward pass off a Bethel defender to a streaking Nachreiner, and Nachreiner put the ball in the net through a charging Bethel goalkeeper.
• Bethel tied the game five minutes later with a goal on a scramble in front off a free kick, then took the lead on a goal following a corner kick 10 minutes into the second half. The Royals added an insurance goal in the 84th minute, on a rebound of a blocked shot in front.
• Augsburg outshot Bethel by a 23-10 margin, but just eight shots were on-target. The Auggies also held a 64-to-36-percent possession advantage in the game.
• Nachreiner had six shots in the game, while Ponce and Allison Hookom (SR, Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS) had five shots each.
Claire Smothers (SO, Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City HS) had three saves in goal.
