LOCATION: Edor Nelson Field, Minneapolis
RECORDS: Augsburg 13-1-1 overall (4-1-1 MIAC), Bethel 7-4-3 overall (3-3-1 MIAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Auggies held a 2-0 lead six minutes into the second half, but Bethel rallied with a goal in the 56th minute and the tying goal in the 90th minute. The Royals scrambled to get a free kick off from near midfield, and a service from 45 yards out bounced in the six-yard box off several players, and Ryan Swanda pounced on the loose ball for a goal with 12.8 seconds remaining.
•
Mitchel Munzing (SR, Portland, Ore./Grant HS) scored for the Auggies in the 28th minute, hitting a one-timer from the center of the 18-yard box off a feed from the right wing by
Remus Repcak (JR, Tualatin, Ore./Tualatin, Ore.).
Carver Tierney (SR, Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) received the second assist on the goal.
• Tierney scored his team-leading 12th goal of the season in the 51st minute, taking the ball on the left side of the 18-yard box, making a big turn inside and slamming the ball home for the goal.
• Augsburg outshot Bethel by a 20-12 margin, including a 7-6 advantage in shots on-goal. Tierney had eight shots in the game, while Munzing had four shots.
• Goalkeeper
Christian Hodges (FY, New Albany, Ohio/Tree of Life Christian School) had four saves.
QUOTES FROM AUGSBURG COACH GREG HOLKER
• "This may be one of the hardest moments in my career here. When they scored that goal, our hearts stopped. You feel helpless. It's a mixture of sadness and confusion. We wanted so badly to bring something to Augsburg soccer that's been out of reach for 45 years. That just shows you the difficulty in sports - the margins are so slim. This group has given everything for the program and they deserve something good."
• "It wasn't for lack of high-quality chances. We created many of those. We looked like we were gonna score five or more on the night, but it just wasn't meant to be."
• "Now we have to march on with realigned objectives. We cannot feel sorry for ourselves. Reflect, grow, push each other positively, and get ready for St. Scholastica on Saturday."
FOR THE FOES
• Jordan Ross scored from Owen Burshem in the 56th minute for Bethel.
• Griffin Blokker had five saves in goal for the Royals.
