Auggies fall 1-0 to #23-ranked Knights

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg University women's soccer team played a stout defensive game against No. 23-ranked Carleton College, but a goal from 30 yards out in the 76th minute gave the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference-leading Knights a 1-0 victory at Edor Nelson Field on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Carleton dominated the flow of play against Augsburg, with a 61-to-39-percent possession advantage and a 13-4 shots advantage. But Augsburg's defense was strong throughout the game, only allowing seven shots on-target in the contest. The defensive backfield of Danielle Wagner (SR, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS), Avery Rich (SR, Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka HS), Grace Dickerson (SR, Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS) and Phoebe Alva Rosa (SR, Jackson, Wyo./Jackson Hole HS), along with defensive midfielder Kate Aman-Lavicky (JR, Madison, Wis./Madison HS), all had strong performances in 90 minutes of play.
Claire Smothers (SO, Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City HS) tied a season-high with six saves in goal for the Auggies.
• Alva Rosa, Jayla Ponce (SR, Kuna, Idaho/Kuna HS), Lennon Folstad (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Central HS) and Allison Hookom (SR, Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS) had shots for the Auggies.

• Kathryn Kresse scored in the 76th minute for Carleton on a rising shot from 30 yards out to the top right corner of the net, assisted by Lily Shure.
