Balanced attack leads Auggies over Eagles

MINNEAPOLIS -- With seven players scoring seven or more points, the Augsburg University women's basketball team scored a 70-60 nonconference victory over the University of Northwestern-St. Paul on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg took the lead for good midway through the first quarter, holding the lead for 38:11, compared to just 1:12 for Northwestern-St. Paul. Augsburg used a 12-0 run to take a 23-11 lead with 7:12 left in the first half, an advantage that extended to as many as 16 points. The Eagles rallied to tie the game at 39-39 with 3:06 left in the third period, but a 12-2 run gave the Auggies a 51-41 lead with 7:48 left in the game. The lead didn't dip below four points the rest of the way.
Saylor Gallagher (JR, Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) led the Auggies with 12 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals.
• Jada Stanford (SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Champlin Park HS) scored 10 points with six rebounds and an assist, hitting 5-of-7 from the field. Lani Fonoti (SO, Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS) also scored 10 points.
• Sydney Hazuga (JR, Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial HS) scored nine points with four rebounds and three assists, and Wakinyela Bear (SR, Morrison, Colo./Meskwaki (Iowa) HS) scored nine points with two assists.
Evelyn Perkins (SO, Woodbury, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) scored seven points with three assists, and Maecee Alexander (JR, St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) scored seven points with five rebounds.
• Augsburg hit 50.0 percent (24-of-48) from the field, compared to 39.6 percent (21-of-53) for the Eagles. The Auggies outrebounded the Eagles by a 36-23 margin.

FOR THE FOES
• Ella Frazier led Northwestern with 16 points, four assists, three steals and three rebounds.
• Emma Korinek and Karley Loven scored nine points each.
