Auggies hang on for win over Polars

MINNEAPOLIS -- With three players scoring in double figures, the Augsburg University women's basketball team claimed a 68-67 nonconference victory over Crown College on Tuesday evening at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg used a 21-7 run in the closing minutes of the second quarter and the opening minutes of the third quarter to take its largest lead of the game, 51-36 with 4:23 left in the third. The Auggies led by 12 points, 59-47, with 8:25 left in the game, but the Polars cut the lead to two points four minutes later. The Auggies pulled back to lead by six points with 2:08 left, but the Polars cut the lead to one point with seven seconds left. 
Amira LaDuke (SR, Cass Lake, Minn./Cass Lake-Bena HS) led the way for the Auggies with 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field, including 3-for-3 from three-point range, adding four rebounds.
• Lani Fonoti (SO, Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS) scored 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field, hitting 2-of-2 from three-point range, adding two blocked shots.
• Wakinyela Bear (SR, Morrison, Colo./Meskwaki (Iowa) HS) scored 10 points with three rebounds, Sydney Hazuga (JR, Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial HS) scored nine points, and Melanie Delestrez (SR, Lake Stevens, Wash./Lake Stevens HS) pulled down 12 rebounds to go along with four points and two steals. 
Saylor Gallagher (JR, Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) scored eight points with five rebounds, six assists and two steals, and Evelyn Perkins (SO, Woodbury, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) had eight assists with two steals and three points.

FOR THE FOES
• Isabelle Sager scored 19 points with 12 rebounds, three assists and three steals to lead Crown.
• Brayli Reimer scored 16 points with 10 assists, eight rebounds and two steals, and Jacee Glasgow scored 13 points.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg opens Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play next Wednesday (12/3) at 7 p.m., with a game at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn.
